The Georgia Morgan Horse Club had a great time on Sept 11, 2005 at Wills Park. It was "Celebrate the Morgan" day, and we provided free popcorn, sodas, and promotional items such as pencils, Morgan writing pads, candy, drink coolers, etc.  Here are a few pictures from the show....

Youth Spotlight

The youth spotlight is on Lauren Gardner! Here is what her mother, Susan Gore Gardner has to say about Lauren and her Morgan filly, Glory:

Lauren has quite a history with this sweet Morgan filly, as I wrote in the Morgan club newsletter recently. They met at Impossible Dream farm when Lauren was taking riding lessons and 'Oconee's Touch of Glory' came from Jenny & Greg Bilbo's Oconee Winds Equestrian center as a yearling for some training.  John Goda III let Lauren work with her there, and the girls formed a sweet friendship.  I think it was during that time Lauren began dreaming of owning Glory, but it wasn't until March of this year that the good Lord decided the time was right.  Lauren got a good part-time job at the Public Library not long after Jenny Bilbo decided to sell her... well, Jeanie Waddell put Lauren and Jenny in touch with each other and Jenny decided that Glory could find no better home than with an enthusiastic 17 year old!  So Lauren bought Glory herself, is paying for all her expenses herself too, and fortunately has a cousin who has an empty stable pasture & round pen where Glory now lives in nearby Dallas.
Glory was just ground broke when Lauren got her.  This photo shows an early training session in May, when the filly was introduced to the bridle, bit, and saddle & Lauren is teaching her reining signals.  She's gotten the walk & trot requests down pat, and these days they're working on the canter.  In June, Lauren actually got in the saddle for the first time and has since been riding her 3 or 4 times a week while school has been out.  Glory is a good girl, very inquisitive and eager to learn; she's not easily frightened and has gotten used to each new piece of equipment soon after she's introduced.

Here, Lauren and Glory are exploring the grounds at Charlotte's house near the pasture & stalls where Glory lives.

As a mom and horse lover, I am so thrilled that Laurens first horse is a Morgan and that she is such a special one.  Even the new vet said upon their initial meeting that he's never seen a horse more suitable to be the first one a young girl owns, with the kind of relaxed personality, good health and calm temperament that will assure their years together are good ones.

GA CDE 2005
On April 8, 9, and 10, Georgia Morgan Club members, Lisa and Dave Holec competed along with other world class CDE drivers.  Horses came from all over the continental US and Canada to compete in this event held in Conyers, GA. It was an exciting 3 days! Here are a few pictures from the event. Photos courtesy of Laura Behning.

Dave and Lisa Holec at the GA International CDE on April 9 '05.  This hazard is the "Canadian Star", a difficult hazard with very tight turns.
"Vic" is Dave and Lisa's CDE Morgan.

Here, they are at a leisurely trot between hazards.  In a CDE you want to finish with good time, but are penalized if you go under the time limit, thus drivers pace theirselves between hazards to be within the time limit.

Visit  www.georgiainternationalcde.com for more information on the GA CDE.  Many thanks to Laura Behning for submitting these wonderful pictures!
